Continental Building Systems Charities began in 2001 as the employees and friends of Continental Building Systems created a lasting tribute to the son of a fellow employee. In 2001 The Tyler Ludwig Scholarship was created and today it continues to serve young people interested in education in a construction related field. The scholarship is awarded through the Builder’s Exchange Foundation and currently awards the successful student with a $1,000 scholarship and is renewable each year as long as the student maintains certain criteria. The following deserving young students have been awarded scholarships to date:

In 2004, Continental Building Systems Charities wanted to expand its charitable focus and created a separate account that is housed at The Columbus Foundation. An employee-based committee was established to focus the funds purpose, direct and create additional fundraising activities, review petitions for funds, monitor investing of the fund and provide oversight.
The primary purpose of this fund is to provide for the care and education of our youth. With this in mind, we have established a scholarship fund and have awarded a $1,000 scholarship in 2006 and 2007. Our 2006 recipient was Stephen Sabo from Pittsburgh and he attends the University of Pennsylvania and our 2007 recipient was Stephanie Baker from Columbus who is attending Cedarville University. This scholarship is renewable for four years as long as the student meets certain criteria. We accept scholarship applications from graduating high school seniors from the Central Ohio and Greater Pittsburgh area. Our future plans include adding the Cleveland area to our search for worthy students as we have recently opened an office there. As our fund grows, our hopes are that we will be able to increase the amount of the scholarship awarded. To apply for this scholarship, please click scholar link
Along with our annual scholarship award, we make an annual gift from the CBS Charities fund. Past recipients have included:
$38,000 to the college funds of Mackenzie and Morgan Ocock
$15,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters (Central Ohio and Greater Pittsburgh)
$9,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities (Central Ohio and Greater Pittsburgh)
$6,000 to Avondale Elementary Tutoring Program
Another aspect of this fund is to allow employees of Continental Building Systems to petition for a contribution to a charity that they are involved in. If the petition is accepted, the fund will match employee contributions made to that specific charity.

While there are several fundraising activities throughout the year, the primary fundraiser for Continental Building Systems Charities is our annual golf outing. Held in the month of September, this golf outing attracts over 216 golfers. It is a very energetic and fun mix of our Employees, Subcontractors, Architects, Engineers, Customers and Friends. This golf outing embodies one of our Core Values that is to “Nurture an environment of Teamwork not only within our organization but also within our broader family”. If you would like to attend this event or be a sponsor to support our efforts, please contact Kim Welty at 614-883-1084 or kwelty@continental-buildingsystems.com
